Building Power

For Community Coalition Action Fund to fully advance its policy agenda, there must be a significant change in who has decision-making power at the city, county and state levels. Executing a strong voter engagement effort is a key element of changing the power equation in Los Angeles.

Community Coalition Action Fund was created to encourage South Los Angeles’ residents to build power through electoral participation. Voting realigns the power dynamic, the relationship of power, between low-income people of color and the governing officials and bodies we elect.

The Community Coalition Action Fund seeks to educate and build the electoral participation and leadership of South Los Angeles’ residents in order to anchor policy makers, elected officials and government institutions in progressive, equity-oriented policy and resource allocation so that the conditions that foster foster violence, substance abuse, and poverty are effectively addressed.

Voters

Our Activists

Whites make up only 42% of California’s adult population, but 58% of the state’s likely voters. In contrast, Latinos comprise 35% of the adult population but just 19% of likely voters. Asian Americans make up 15% of adults and 13% of likely voters, while 6% of both adults and likely voters are African American. Our activists are the voters who can use their votes as their voice to create change by turning out 15,000 votes in any given election.
